Francesco Spampinato

Francesco Spampinato is a full professor of Contemporary Art History at the Department of Arts of the University of Bologna. He conducts research in the fields of contemporary artistic practices and visual studies, with a focus on the relationship between contemporary art, media and technology, and on collective dynamics, electronic culture and the capacity of art to produce agency in urgent matters such as environmental issues. His publications include the monographs Come Together: The Rise of Cooperative Art and Design (Princeton Architectural Press, 2015), Art Record Covers (TASCHEN, 2017), Art vs. TV: A Brief History of Contemporary Artists’ Responses to Television (Bloomsbury, 2022), and the edited volumes The Pandemic Visual Regime: Visuality and Performativity in the Covid-19 Crisis (Punctum Books, 2023), Arti come Agency. Il valore sociale e politico delle arti nelle comunità (FrancoAngeli, 2024) and Skank Bloc Bologna: Alternative Art Spaces since 1977 (Mousse, 2024). Francesco Spampinato is also responsible for a series of innovative teaching projects related to the theme of sustainability in the context of relationships with European and African universities.
