Monika Vaicenaviciene is an award-winning illustrator and picture book author. She was born in 1991 in Vilnius, Lithuania. After completing her illustration and printmaking studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts, she went on to study for a Master’s degree in Visual communication at Stockholm Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design. Monika’s books have been awarded at World Illustration Awards (New Talent Children’s Books and Overall categories, 2018) and China International Book Fair (Publisher’s Choice Award, 2018), shortlisted at Bologna, Shanghai, and Frankfurt book fairs as well as other international illustration competitions, selected among the most beautiful books in Lithuania. Her book What Is a River? was published in 2019 and translated into many languages. In her work, Monika likes to explore intersections of fiction and non-fiction, a space where personal memories, legends, and real stories meet, creating poetic documentary narratives about interconnectedness and wonders of our world.
