Dietro a una foto

Following Infanzia di un fotografo, published in the ‘I topi immaginari’ series in 2021, Massimiliano Tappari’s investigation continues with Dietro a una foto. Everyone, Tappari argues, has their own unique vision: “absolute pitch exists, but the eye is always and exclusively relative”. Every photograph by Massimiliano Tappari becomes a genuine exercise in comedy and imagination: the camera records visual notes, while the brief accompanying texts lead the reader through constant surprises and shifts in perspective. What we see at first glance transforms and completely reframes the potential story behind an image. The core meaning of Tappari’s work finds its highest expression in the reaction of a group of children to his short stories of words and images: “Did you know we were going to laugh?”.
