Night has come. Everybody's sleeping, even animals do. Or so it seems. Some lights are still on and this quiet summer night bustles with people, cats, owls, dogs and tiny details.

In summer the storm bursts; the cuckoo sings; poppies blossom. In winter, the snow falls; the dormouse sleeps; soup's cooking.

Children living in the city don’t have many opportunities to observe nature. Few of them know, though, that there’s a whole laboratory available to them: their home kitchen.

A river is a journey. A singing spring, a crevasse in a glacier, a muddy swamp or a silent lake: that's where a river is born. In a moment. Then it starts to run.

Summer has arrived, and the ice cream cart with it. There's a flea market in the village square.

Spring is coming. Ina and Jonas want to go play ball in the park; Manfred meets Elke and Lenzo, Susanne darts around on her scooter and someone throws a banana peel in the sidewalk.

It’s winter. It’s cold and it’s snowing. The little lake in the park is frozen and you can skate on it. Lisa has missed her bus again.

Autumn has come. People gather together to celebrate at the country fair. An exhibition is going on at the cultural centre to reward the most beautiful pumpkin of all.

On the ground a mushroom grows, a donkey browses, a hare escapes; under the ground a seed sprouts, a mole digs, a frog sleeps...

A garden can be very small, made of one vase plant only, but if you look closer, you might see it like a tall tree in a meadow. Or a garden can be so huge one might even get lost.
